MIDWEEK PENNANT
Smeaton Bowls Club division one team travelled to Central Wendouree and were too strong for the home side by winning two of the three rinks.
Leading all day, Peter Kersley, Beth Davidson, Judy Lafranchi and skip Jenny Toose won easily by 20 shots, while Geoff Toose, Sue Lafranchi, Kevin Clohesy and skip Rhonda Armstrong won by seven shots.
Helen Mizzeni's rink of Barb Adam, Helen Jenkin and Laraine Toose lost by a mere one shot in a close game.
Over in division two, playing at home against Daylesford, the team were too strong for the opposition winning all three rinks.
Graeme Perry's rink of Bev Shaw, Joan Lafranchi and Miriam Haines won by five shots.
Maxine Rousch, Colin Toose, Robyn Shaw and skip Keren May won by 19 shots, while Winston Pickering, Marilyn Stephens, Robyn Bradshaw and skip Kerry Leishman secured a13 shot win.
In division three, Smeaton played Central Wendouree and lost by nine shots - Jenny Jolliffe's rink down by two shots, Robert Seamons rink down by four shots and Jenny Tranters rink down by three shots.
Turkey fours
It was another great week for Smeaton.
The turkey fours tournament was played last Sunday.
Results from the tournament were:
1st place Colin Toose, Garry Fitzsimons, Barry Phelan and skip Helen Mizzeni won the turkeys.
2nd place Rob Turley, Fay Lamb, Kerry Leishman and skip Kevin Clohesy won the Christmas puddings.
Champions
Last Thursday night, the Smeaton Bowls Club held the ladies' and men's Singles Club Championship finals.
In the ladies final, Robyn Shaw was anxious to win her second title since 2011-2012 and was involved in a marathon against Helen Mizzeni that went for 29 ends before Robyn got home 25-21.
Robyn made the decisive move when she went from 13-11 (14 ends) to 22-14 (22 ends), before a courageous fightback from Helen to hold onto win the club championship title.
In the men's final, Kevin Clohesy is the new single club champion after defeating John Gervasoni after 31 gruelling ends, beating John 26-18 to win his first club champion title.
Kevin took a stranglehold on the game 18-13 after 22 ends and John could not find the consistency to make serious inroads into the deficit.
SATURDAY PENNANT
Smeaton suffered more heartache in the weekend pennant.
In spite of another strong performance, division one was unable to hold up against a stronger Midlands Golf side who took the game by five shots.
Jim Taylor's rink of Russell Leishman, Joel McNaught, Alex McKee won by two shots.
Peter Kersley, Geoff Toose, Craig McKee and skip Geoff Pickering played great bowls from the beginning to the end of the match before securing a 23 shot win.
In division three Smeaton, playing at home to Webbcona, won by 38 shots.
The highlight of the day was all four rinks won, with Winston Pickering, Bill May, Des Dwyer and skip Len Robinson who played great bowls from the beginning to the end of the match, before securing a four shot win.
Rhonda Armstrong's rink of Colin Toose, Miriam Haines and Bill Janetski also won by 16 shots.
David Pedretti, Geoff Jenkin, Geoff May and skip Laraine Toose won by seven and Ron Leishman's rink of Garry Fitzsimons, Ian Ross, Keren May also won by 11 shots.
Unfortunately, the division five team suffered a 37 shot loss to Waubra.
The only winning rinks on the day for Smeaton was that of Gordon McKay, Barb Adam, Des Morrell and skip Robert Seamons who won by 10 shots.
Helen Jenkin, Noel Bomphrey, Robyn Bradshaw and skip Russell Bradshaw won by six shots.
In division eight, playing at home to Learmonth, went down by three shots. Shane Slater's rink of Kevin Lafranchi, Marg Saligari, Judy Slater won by four shots, while Mervyn McKay's rink went down by seven shots.
