Hundreds of people have come together in Laurieton to show their support for Erica (Ric) Walker and her family.  Erica Walker, who is a registered nurse at a local GP practice, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.  Erica underwent surgery in Sydney in November 2018 to have some of the tumor removed and is now undergoing rehabilitation, radiation and chemotherapy. The Rally for Ric fundraising event was on Saturday, January 12 at Laurieton United Services Club to help Erica and her family.  The community has thrown its support behind the family to help renovate their home and fund Erica’s medical expenses.  Rally for Ric organiser and Erica’s friend, Emma Dykes, said she was expecting 500 people but was overwhelmed by the huge crowd who turned out on the day.  Emma said she has been overwhelmed by the amount of people who have come forward in an effort to help the family.  In the three weeks before Christmas, community members worked hard on the Walker family home to build a new ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. Erica’s husband Mick Walker addressed the crowd at the Rally for Ric event.  “We can’t thank you enough,” he said.  Mick said they have been worried about what the future holds for their children, however they are reassured that they are in good hands with the village’s support.  If people are willing to donate you can deposit into Holiday Coast Credit Union account ‘Rally for Ric’.
