Friday, Sean Dixon @ Palais-Hepburn
Saturday, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks @ Palais-Hepburn
Join Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, a powerful and confronting live band, in celebrating the release of Good Citizen, last year's album which takes the band in a new lyrical direction.
This is serious whisky-drenched, straight-ahead, country-tinged, blues-influenced rock and roll.
Savage explores the darker corners of the human condition with a rich, husky and soulful voice that is nothing short of astounding, and when she sings, you can feel every broken heart, every tale of woe.
Debut album WOLF was recorded at various locations across Victoria, including the old Tip Top bakery in Brunswick and the Savages' place in her hometown of Port Albert. She has since recorded more fully realised albums The Hypnotiser and the wonderful One Of Us from 2016, which topped many scribes best-of lists that year.
Log on to her website for her influences - there aren't too many on that list I'm not a fan of.
Good Citizens raises the stakes and signals the ascent of Cash Savage and the Last Drinks as trailblazers in a new era of Australian music.
This band is set to blow the roof off The Palais on Saturday.
Songs such as Human, I Am, Better Than That and Pack Animals demonstrate a definitive unswerving political statements.
The album comes to a devastating conclusion with Collapse, a song Savage wrote for her daughter.
"I hope she understands that the world is a violent place, but you don't need to buy into that."
Sunday, Beccy Cole @ Palais-Hepburn
An accomplished performer, master storyteller and borderline comedian, Cole plays the latest Palis incarnation for the first time.
Cole has remained at the forefront of Australian country music since winning Star Maker in 1993.
She's best known for a high-energy live show and her ability to take an audience on an emotional journey.
Not content with being known for her quirkiness, she recently penned a heartfelt, honest and multi award-winning song Poster Girl, inspired by a trip to the Middle East to entertain troops.
In a career that began more than 20 years ago, Cole has toured with Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Glenn Campbell and Don McLean.
