MEMBERS of Smeaton Bowls Club enjoyed an interesting calendar of events last week.
The club secured a number of wins during round 13 of the Ballarat District Bowls Competition.
Smeaton’s division one team enjoyed a much-needed win during the Midweek Pennant, returning it to the winner’s circle.
The team secured all three rinks to record the 26 shot win over Daylesford.

Beth Davidson, Garry Fitzsimons, Judy Lafranchi and skip Helen Mizzeni’s rink won by a convincing fourteen shots, while Peter Kersley, Shane Slater, Miriam Haines and skip Rhonda Armstrong secured a close eight shot win.
Meanwhile, Skip Jenny Toose’s rink played strategically to get across the line by a mere four shots.
Further, the club’s division three team had a victorious win after a trip to Midlands.
The team won two out of three rinks to secure the 27 shot win.
Winston Pickering, Marilyn Stephens, Keren May and skip Laraine Toose’s rink were far too good for their opponents and had a sailed to a convincing 24 shot win.
Graeme Perry, Robyn Bradshaw, Kerry Leishman and skip Carol McKay won their rink by thirteen shots.
In the weekend pennant, the division six team won a close game with Central Wendouree, securing a nine shot win, with skip Robert Seamons’ rink winning by 16 shots.
The division nine team accounted for Waubra, winning by 19 shots, with skip Shane Slaters’ rink recording a 22 shot win.
Friday, January 18, saw a Mixed Pairs Tournament. Barry and Maree Phelan of Midlands Bowls Club won the event, with Smeaton stars John Gervasoni and Helen Jenkin placing runner-up.
Following this excitement, Smeaton members participated in a McCarthy Fours event, sponsored by Reg and Aileen Haintz, on Sunday, January 20.
Kevin Lafranchi, Colin Toose, Robert Seamons and skip Rhonda Armstrong won by one shot.
Second place was awarded to the terrific Tooses: Geoff Toose, Laraine Toose, Jenny Toose and skip David Toose.
