At the midweek pennant, Smeaton’s division one team lost by a very narrow margin of one shot despite winning two out of three rinks. Sue Lafranchi, Elizabeth Cosgrave, Maureen Goldsmith and skip Jenny Toose’s rink enjoyed a seven shot win, while Beth Davidson, Helen Jenkin, Judy Lafranchi and skip Helen Mizzeni won their rink by a close three shots. But Miriam Haines, Keren May, Rhonda Armstrong and skip Kevin Clohesy’s rink were unlucky, going down by eleven shots after a nail biter of a game.
In division three, Smeaton played a tight game with Buninyong, before securing a win by one shot. Skip Marilyn Stephens’s rink won by eight shots while the team’s second rink with skip Laraine Toose won by a convincing thirteen shots to secure the division a win.
Over in division four, Smeaton took on Creswick, going home with a six shot win. Robert Turley, Esma Slater, Sue Richards and skip Robert Seamons were in great form from the outset, securing a 25 shot win.
Meanwhile, Clunes division seven team won three out of their four rinks. Skipper Peter Quinton’s rink had a close game, prevailing by five shots, while Laurie Judd and Josh Polson’s rinks both recorded victories with 15 and 16 shot wins, securing Clunes a 16 shot win and allowing them to retain their position at the top of the ladder in the division.
Over in the weekend pennant, Smeaton’s division one team could not hold up against a strong Learmonth outfit who secured an 11 shot win.
Clunes’ division two team travelled to Midlands. The game started early due to many wanting to support ‘Bushy’ Hill and Midlands Golf was very supportive of this. Midlands Golf won three out of the four rinks by convincing margins, although skipper Geoff Annear’s rink was able to record an eight shot victory to keep the damage under 60 shots.
Smeaton’s division four team suffered a heartbreaking 45 shot loss to Creswick, while the division nine team lost by one shot to Central Wendouree.
Kevin Lafranchi, Colin Toose, Mervyn McKay and skip Gordon McKay won their rink by 33 shots, while it was a family affair with Aimee Slater, Daryl Slater, Judy Slater and skip Shane Slater losing their rink by 34.
