Smeaton Bowls Club had mixed results in round six of the Ballarat and District Bowls midweek and weekend pennant competitions.

The club’s division four sides recorded wins in the midweek and weekend competitions while the club’s division three team recorded a win in the midweek competition.
In the midweek, the division one team travelled to Midlands Golf where it experienced a difficult game against a stronger side, who defeated Smeaton by 22 shots. One rink, however, won by 13 shots; Miriam Haines, Keren May, Rhonda Armstrong and skip Beth Davidson won easily, 29 to 16.
In division three, Smeaton took on Linton in what eventuated to be a close game with tied scores deciding the final result. Graeme Perry, Robyn Bradshaw, Laraine Toose and skip Carol McKay’s rink won by eight shots while Peter Kersley, Robin Cawthan, Maxine Rousch and Bev Shaw won by nine but Marilyn Stephens’ rink of Winston Pickering, Barb Adam and Kerry Leishman lost by seventeen shots.
Over in division four, the home side, Smeaton, won by a convincing twenty-two shots, with all three rinks winning. Ian Ross, Frances Muller, Judy Slater and skip Jenny Jolliffe had a strong fifteen shot win, while Marg Saligari, Esme Slater, Sue Richards and skip Robert Seamons’ rink enjoyed a six shot win. Sheila Prendergast, Val Rumler, Joan Lafranchi and skip Jenny Tranter’s rink also succeeded with a one shot win.
But the club had less success in the weekend pennant.
Going up against Central Wendouree, Smeaton’s division one side won two rinks and went down by just three shots in the third.
In division four, Smeaton achieved a four shot win over Midlands Golf on its home turf with Ian Ross, Keren May and William Janetski winning by a twenty-two shot margin and David Pedretti, Miriam Haines, Graeme Perry and skip Ron Leishman winning by a strong twenty-three shots.
The division six side put up a good performance against Learmonth with only six shots deciding the result. Wayne Ford, Helen Jenkin, Beth Davidson and skip Rhonda Armstrong’s rink won by thirteen shots.
