The Dixons bought their bulbs directly from a grower in the Dandenong Ranges at the same time as their friend Bryan Frost, who purchased thousands of bulbs to sell at Trentham’s Spud Fest. Mr Frost donates the profits of his daffodil bulb sales to worthy causes in and around Trentham.
Mr Dixon said daffodils grow exceptionally well in Trentham because they love a cold winter and a mild start to spring.
“They are a beautiful flower and you can see many of them growing naturally in the fields when travelling around the region. We would like to inspire more people plant daffodils because they make you smile and when they flower, you know spring is coming,” he said.
Last week, the Dixons came home to see their daffodils buried under six centimetres of snow. They said it was a true site to see.
