Hepburn Shire residents now have more reasons than ever to stay at home as they grow older. The Hepburn Health Service is providing Home Care Packages for the community’s ageing citizens, with more and more people taking up the opportunity to stay living in their own homes longer.

Daylesford resident, 93-year-old Mary Nield has been involved in the program for 18 months and life couldn't be better. “I’m just happy all the time,” she said. “As far as I’m concerned, the carers are like a second family, they are there for you at every turn.”

Mary is just one of dozens of people across the Hepburn Shire who’ve taken up the Home Care Package opportunity, which gives elderly people the confidence to stay in their own homes longer and feel safer.

The Home Care Package service is available across the Hepburn Shire and surrounding areas, including the Macedon Ranges. Locally based, qualified and experienced case managers and service coordinators work with people to plan the care and services they want, and ensure they receive them when, how and by whom they want.

Personal carer Corrie Spicer regularly visits Mary. “I absolutely love my job, the elderly people I work with are very grateful, and the best part is seeing them stay in their homes and gain independence,” she said.

Home Care Packages provide a range of services to older people, without them having to leave home. To discuss what Hepburn Health Service can offer you or your family member by providing your Home Care Package, call the Integrated Community Aged Care office on 5321 6596 or email agedcare@hhs.vic.gov.au.
