On a day more in keeping with making snow angels and drinking hot chocolates, the Daylesford and Hepburn United Miniroo girls team showed wonderful improvement.
Their improvement and skill have not gone unnoticed, as their coaches believe there may have been a researcher for the next FIFA 2019 computer game present, wanting to pick up some pointers.
It did not take long for Maddie, Stevie and Ellah to put together one of many dazzling passing moves which can only be explained by – Double tap X, hold down R1 release, triple tap circle.
The defense of Anouk, Mackey and Ginger had the researcher stating, “I think we need an extra button for those moves, they’re unbelievable”. Immy’s saves in the first half kept the Saints in the game, while Stevie’s efforts in the second half, with great clearances, left the researcher pointing out that nobody could perform those impossible moves.
Eve’s blistering pace and dribbling skill down the right had spectators all wanting to see if she had three legs (just keep tapping R2). She linked amazingly well with Livvy and Nina upfront. Tap L1 and R2 together, hold square and release same time, single tap triangle.
Neallah warmed us with her wonderful efforts, along with Sierra, who had her best game of the year.
The coaching team had the girls playing various formats they have learnt from researching FIFA 2018, from counterattack, route one long ball and crowding the ball, with the girls again showing their adaptability to every change.
They are sure the FIFA representative was checking the girls didn’t have more than nine girls on the pitch as they were so fast. In fact, they only had eight!
Ballarat North fought bravely and had a great second half. It was fitting at the end of the game to have a group photo of these fantastic teams.
The FIFA representative advised that while the team may not score highly yet on skill and pace compared to the mighty Matildas, they were over 100 per cent in something that cannot be taught, that comes from within; courage, bravery, determination and sportswomanship.
These are attributes the girls displayed every minute of the game. Perhaps we may see a Daylesford and Hepburn Soccer Club Miniroos team in the next FIFA version… and if not, we may recognise some moves. (Hold down every button – yes, you will need a third hand – that’s how good these girls are).
The girls look forward to their final game of the season next week.
