As the grey cloud of the past few days cleared overnight, Ballarat’s temperature plummeted to -2 at 5.30am this morning.
And even those heading to school would have noticed the chill this morning, with the temperature staying less than zero until 8.20am.
But as the sun came out, the mercury rose to 6.2 degrees just an hour later with a forecast maximum later today of 13 degrees.
Police have reported that there have been no issues so far relating to black ice on the roads saying that drivers around the region have been paying attention to the conditions.
Meanwhile, Melbourne was officially the coldest major city in the world this morning.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Dan Narramore said it was the coldest morning in Melbourne since July 16 last year, and the coldest June morning in two years.
Melbourne’s temperature fell to three degrees, with the coldest place in the state Mount Buller, which dropped to -4.
The bureau said the clear skies after recent rains contributed to the morning frosts all around the state.
Ballarat’s forecast for the rest of the week looks fine with mostly sunny days expected until at least Sunday with day time temperatures hovering between 11 and 13 degrees. The cold nights will continue until at least Saturday night.
