Education Week encouraged primary and secondary schools, as well as early childhood services, to highlight students’ work in the arts through subjects like drama, dance, music, media and visual arts from May 20 to 26.
Hepburn Primary School took the opportunity to have an open day for family members and to celebrate the arts as well as the individual interests and strengths of the school’s students.
Pupils were inspired with a variety of lessons based around art, dance, music and story time.
Former school parent and local secondary school teacher, Susan Verbyla, engaged students in music classes while art teacher, Arunee Beck held a boat building class in the art room.
11am marked National Simultaneous Storytime, where all schools and public libraries read the same book at the same time and then completed activities connected to the story.
This year’s book was Tony Wilson’s Hickory Dickory Dash.
The highlight was the concert at the conclusion of the day, where each class performed a flash dance choreographed by Move Dream Create.
Coco Harvey amazed the audience with her vocals, Ciaran Darroch with his electric guitar tunes and Pippa Pearson with her keyboard skills.
Local artist Arkie Williams performed with her instrumental group, which consisted of students Anna Fedrizzi, Stevie Rigby, Danielle Makara and Lilly Clark.
