The grand surprise, devised by Pavillion Arts Creswick, was revealed on Sunday.
About 200 artworks, mostly portraits and dedications to mothers, were pinned up in shop windows in Albert Street at the weekend.
After the artworks were revealed, families gathered at Creswick RSL for an afternoon of singing and art activities.
Easter Bunny was invited but said he was too busy following Easter festivities, but Santa popped by to lead the “mother’s carols”.
Community members sung songs which centered on mothers, including Blue Moon and a numbers of others where the word ‘mother’ could be substituted.
One of the organisers, Bill Weidner, said he hoped the concept would spread across the shire, as it took the day back to its roots and away from commercialisation.
