The Creswick Youth Brass Band have been practicing for their first attempt at the State Band Championship’s youth section at the South Street Eisteddfod.
Musicians from eight to 16-years-old make up the band which was formed last year.
The youth group grew from the Creswick Brass Band’s learner program. Many current Creswick Youth Brass member also play with the Creswick Brass Band, current D grade Victorian champions.
Creswick Brass Band musical director Katrina Bird said Creswick Youth Brass have learnt three challenging musical pieces to present a 15 minute program at the weekend competition.
“With a wide age and ability range, it is a challenge to get the band working together, but all the members have been working hard to play the best they can,” she said.
“Creswick is known as the ‘Happy Band’ and it’s great to see the kids not only concentrate hard on playing well, but enjoying their music.”
