Priest has been involved in volleyball coaching for more than four decades and previously coached the Victorian under-15 girls team in the 2010 championships.
He said he had not applied for the role, instead Volleyball Victoria contacted him.
“I was honoured to be asked to do it,” Priest said.
“But I had to talk to my wife because it is a big commitment, we have to go to Dandenong every Sunday to train and I’ve entered them into a couple of tournaments.”
Priest has already held two training sessions and after presenting his team with his mission statement and goals, he has asked each player to do the same.
His goals include developing leadership, being competitive and equipping the players with life and volleyball skills to help them meet future challenges.
The selection continues an exciting year for Daylesford Volleyball Association after year nine Daylesford Secondary School student Shannon Harraghy was selected as part of the Victorian under-17 state team.
Priest had been an early mentor to Harraghy when he first began playing the sport just six months ago after making the transition from football.
The national championships will be held in Queensland in September.
