The two-day fixture was completed on Saturday at Tylden Reserve.
The Saints batted first on the previous Saturday posting an impressive total of 269 for the loss of 8 wickets.
In an excellent team effort, the best batsman were skipper Mark Reid with 64, Bryce Coffey 59, Tim Chew 51 (including three sixes) and Jake Prewett 28 not out.
Reid and Coffey helped to set up the big score with a second wicket partnership of 120.
Trentham then followed up on day two by dismissing Castlemaine United for only 63 runs. Once again, this was due to a fine team effort with all bowlers bowling accurately and a high standard of fielding.
Best bowlers for the Saints were Michael Chew with 3 for 8, Jake Prewett , 2 for 3 and Tim Chew, 2 for 16.
... a fine team effort with all bowlers bowling accurately and a high standard of fielding.
Trentham enforced the follow-on for a possible outright win, but Castlemaine United was able to survive and finished on 4 for 101 at close of play. Trentham moves to equal first on the B-Grade ladder.
A-Reserve
Unfortunately, the news for Trentham’s A-Reserve team was not so good. Chasing a large score of 340 set the previous week by Barkers Creek on a good pitch, they had to bat on a rain-affected pitch on Saturday at Barkers Creek.
The odds were stacked against them as the turf pitch proved very difficult to play on and they ended up losing outright with respective first and second innings scores of 112 and 79.
Two Saints batsmen who batted extremely well in the circumstances were Sam Hewitt who made 38 in the first innings and newcomer, Steve Rizio, who made 33 not out in the second innings.
The unexpected big loss sees the Saints A-Reserve team slip down the ladder but still well placed for finals in March.
They will be hoping for a strong rebound next match.
In the next round, another two-day game, A-Reserve play will play at Tylden Reserve against Newstead and B-Grade will be playing away to Harcourt.
