Now in their seventh year of operation, Daylesford Xmas Cheer has this year narrowed its focus to people within the postcodes of 3460 and 3461 to ensure all funds generated by the appeal go straight back into the Daylesford community.
Daylesford Xmas Cheer committee member Danny Moynihan said while many people planned on donating to charities at Christmas time, people were often unaware there was an avenue which ensured their money stayed locally.
“Often I speak to people who go and donate in the bigger towns and they don’t know that they can donate here in Daylesford,” Mr Moynihan said.
The program is run by a number of local organisations including Hepburn Health, Child and Family Services, the St Vincent de Paul Society and Rotary.
The money raised will go towards cash handouts for families who are doing it tough over the festive season, as well as vouchers which will be given as gifts to older children.
Toys can also be donated to the appeal at the Bendigo Bank on Vincent Street, with donations being accepted up until December 21.
