And it’s under the night sky that the big changes will take place.
The club has reinvented its night golf competition with a round planned for Friday, February 27, where players will use LED balls and will play along a course marked with light sticks, outlining the fairway, pin and hazards.
The club last week installed par three tees on all 18 holes of its course, which it hopes will help make the game “not so intimidating”, according to Novotel Forest Resort sports and leisure business development manager Russell Cartledge.
“It’s much easier for beginners, it doesn’t take as long and is a great innovation for conference activity,” he said.
“We trialed it last week with four players in a group and it took an hour and 15 minutes to play nine holes, which is great for after-work activities and social functions.”
Cartledge said the innovative ideas were hoped to attract fresh faces to the club.
“Golf the world over is suffering,” he said.
“There are very few clubs that aren’t going backwards and we are not immune from that.

“(We) try to discover ways we can introduce people to golf and we think the par three competition and
maybe having night driving competitions would be a fun way to get families and clubs involved.”
The club is also in the final stages of completing a re-branding, under which it will be known as the Forest Country Club.
