On the first day’s play the previous Saturday, Trentham won the toss and elected to send Guildford in to bat. Jake Sartori bowled effectively, taking the early wicket of J. Glenister for six, leg before wicket. Sam Hewitt then clean bowled T. Bunting with a great yorker for 13, bringing the score to 2 for 38. C. Bunting and A. Parsons then put on 35 runs before good fielding and team work by Trentham resulted in C. Bunting run out for 26.
Parsons and G. McKendry batted well together and looked to be in control, building a potentially match-winning partnership. However, skipper Dolf Reid kept ringing in the bowling and field changes and was rewarded with the valuable breakthrough wicket of McKendry for 53 taken by Jake Prewett.
A few runs later, with the score on 162, Isaac Jennings deceived Parsons with a well-flighted delivery and he was smartly stumped by Saints wicketkeeper John McKenry for 41.
Trentham then tightened the screws further and ran through the remaining batsmen very quickly, dismissing Guildford for a total of 176. This was an great comeback by the Saints as Guildford at one point had been 3 for 144.
The best bowlers for the Saints were Jake Sartori with 2 for 21 and Isaac Jennings with 2 for 38.
On the second day’s play, Trentham began their innings cautiously. Although they lost Shane Armstrong for six relatively early, this policy paid off and runs began to accumulate quickly later in the second wicket partnership between Sam Bruton and Isaac Jennings.
Jennings played some great attacking leg-side shots and was finally dismissed for a career-high 63 that included 18 from one over.
With the score at 2 for 100, opener Sam Bruton was joined by Chris Boyer and they took Trentham’s score past the Guildford target.
At the end of play, Trentham was 3 for 195 with Chris Boyer unbeaten on a fine 73 and Sam Bruton dismissed at the very end on a patient and valuable 47.
The win has Trentham in equal top place on the A-Reserve ladder.
