Peter J Kennedy, 26, was sentenced to 29 days imprisonment over the matter which resulted in the police cell being classified as a biohazard.
The Ballarat Magistrates Court heard Kennedy had been taken into custody on unrelated matters, and soon began yelling at his solicitor at the Ballarat Police Station.
The court heard Kennedy was then placed into a cell where he began removing his clothes and urinating over the floor.
He then threw wet toilet paper at a security camera inside the cell before defecating and smearing his faeces around the room.
Kennedy also threatened to spit at police officers who were forced to monitor the cell from a window in the door.
Kennedy pleaded guilty to acting prejudicial to the security/good order/management of a police gaol, which his lawyer conceded was a serious offence.
She told the court while Kennedy was coming down from ice and cannot remember a lot of the details, he was "very sorry for what he did".
Following his release from custody, the lawyer said Kennedy intended to enter a rehab facility and was determined to deal with his ice issues.
She said Kennedy had spent 29 days on remand and urged the magistrate to sentence him to time served.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose told Kennedy it was "totally unacceptable behaviour".
"It disrupts how the prison runs," she said.
Kennedy was convicted and sentenced to time served.
