Local luthier Nick Carpenter has introduced a two-day course to teach musicians and music enthusiasts how to make their own personalised electric guitar.
“Pretty much no-one else in Australia is doing this type of (short-term) course,” he said.
“You get to choose the colour of it and the design. It’s custom – you put your personality into it.”
Mr Carpenter will run the courses at Wildwood Instruments every weekend for $599, which includes coverage of the materials, allowing musicians to create their own quality instruments when many guitars sell in retail for thousands of dollars.
Mr Carpenter, who moved to Daylesford from Melbourne three years ago, said there is a strong contingent of music lovers around the region.
Those in the course can choose between eight electric guiter and base kits, with the bodies and necks of the instruments already pre-cut.
The workshop teaches attendees how to shape and design the head stock, sand, stain and oil the body and install and solder all the electronics.
The course is open to 16-year-olds and above, with bookings available through the www.wildwoodinstruments.com.au website.
