The consultation sessions asked residents how different property types should be levied. The council did not receive any written submissions, although received a number of in-person suggestions since the draft was released in April.
Birch ward councillor Kate Redwood commended the updated strategy.
“There was a time when Hepburn Shire rates were very expensive when compared to councils of a similar size,” she said.
“After four years, we’ve managed to bring it back, which I think is very good.”
The strategy does not influence the total amount raised by council, but instead seeks to better equity of rates paid by different property types.
One of the changes is that pokie machine venues will no longer receive rate discounts where the properties are part recreational and part commercial.
Waste management charges will also be reduced for vacant properties.
Also, a property development rebate will be introduced that could be used for vacant land.
