But community consultation needs to be transparent, and counting people who don't reply as 'yes' votes is not honest consultation.
A support rate of 65 per cent was considered by council to be the benchmark for supporting this proposal.
In Wheatsheaf, where I live, the council quotes a figure of 66.2 per cent for support for the proposal, but only by including non-responders as supporters.
I would like to see the breakdown of 'yes', 'no', and 'no response', to be convinced that the community really did vote for this proposal. I think you'll find that they didn't.
The council should be encouraging us to reduce our waste by composting, and buying minimal packaging, not handing out big bins so we can send more to landfill, and pay dearly for the privilege.
Please do the right thing and publish the real figures for all areas Council.
