I AM moving house soon and as I packed away my countless things in boxes this week, I pondered what it would be like to be homeless.

Admittedly, I have always had a safe place to call home - a warm bed, something to eat on the dinner table, and for most of my life, a loving person to share my house with.
Home brings us a sense of identity and provides stability in our life.
It's hard to imagine how one could become homeless.
Surely the person could just ring up their parents or a friend and ask for a place to stay or some money to borrow?
It's not that simple for many, though. Family breakdowns, distance, housing affordability, a loss of a job... A whole range of factors can play into homelessness.
And even sleeping on someone's couch is a form of homelessness.
So often people think, it will never happen to me.
But I bet the people sleeping on the streets tonight never thought that would be their reality either.
It's a heartbreaking thought and community must endeavour to help our most vulnerable.
However, there is no easy answer.
Providing jobs and affordable housing is a start, but to achieve that takes a collaborative and determined approach.
I have faith that we can provide safe homes for these people in time.
We just have to keep the conversation going and make sure progress is being made by the organisations that can make it happen.
We can no longer pretend the issue doesn't exist.
