Firstly, some little plants began appearing in that ugly swimming pool retaining wall, now sprouting blooms in different colours.
Then, some warm and colourful homemade seat covers appeared on those cold metal seats in the shelters. A box of magazines sits on the seat. I soon found the answer.
A group of Daylesford women are working regularly to improve the precinct and provide a source of food for insects and bees.
A couple of artists, have contributed sculptural aspects using natural materials from the surrounding environment.
They have created colourful mosaic designs on bricks inserted into the wall. And a “welcome” sign has been woven into the wire of the pool.
There are plans afoot, to make the bus stop more aesthetically pleasing and welcoming to visitors and regular local travellers alike, so watch this space.
The motivation for the project came from Lena Mazza’s enthusiasm for the much improved Public Transport (PT) now available in and out of Daylesford.
“It’s an absolute delight to jump on the bus in the morning and meander through our beautiful Central Victorian countryside to a connecting train service at Ballarat, Castlemaine or Woodend”, she said.
“You can sit back and daydream, whilst leaving the driving to someone else.
On weekends, the trains are patronised by people in a leisurely frame of mind, which creates a lovely atmosphere.
Conversations may be struck up with strangers, or one can sit back with a book, a paper, or a PC for the journey.
So for a little of the ‘slow life’, why not do something good for the environment, and ensure that our services continue into the future? Why not leave your car at the bus stop and try going by PT? You’ll probably find it cheaper too,” says Lena.
If you would like to get involved or just wish to flag an idea or offer cuttings, the women are usually there on Thursday mornings, or you can phone 53483740 for more information.
