A group of Creswick residents has spent several years fighting for the development of an aquatic centre in the town, saying it would become a vital resource for children and the elderly.
Residents currently travel to Ballarat or Kyneton for swimming lessons and hydrotherapy, but residents hope that will soon change.
The Creswick and District Aquatic Centre committee admits it can't raise the entirety of the funds itself, but believes with enough community-raised money and support, the government and shire will jump on board.
The Hepburn Shire is yet to give in-principle support to the proposed aquatic centre, but committee secretary Julie Moran said the group would continue its campaign.
The group is organising Creswick's first Community Garage Sale on October 18, with residents encouraged to register for the event and show their support.
Every address registered for $10 will receive a real estate agent’s sign for the front yard and be listed on a town map.
Ms Moran said the event was another way to involve communities in the drive.
"This issue has been at the forefront for 20 to 30 years now and we are confident the pool will be built," she said.
"There aren't any heated indoor pools anywhere in the Hepburn Shire and everyone you speak to has a story about how a pool could help them."
She said a past feasibility study organised by the shire had determined the pool was not sustainable, but members disagreed with the finding.
"We're not looking for a gymnasium or anything big and fancy. We just want to meet the need that is clearly there," Ms Moran said.
"Other swimming pools are overcrowded and this proposed facility could people to the region, rather than send them away like what's happening now.
"We've spoken to residents and we already know people will use it - we just need to remain confident we will receive the funding in the long term."
