Tho outclassed Kenya’s Joseph Githitu 21-5, 21-11 in just 21 minutes.
The victory set up a second round clash on Wednesday night against the Seychelles’ Steve Malcouzanne.
Meanwhile, Bendigo mountain bike rider Peta Mullens finished 12th in Tuesday night’s cross country race.
Mullens was in the lead pack for the first two kilometres of the 32km event.
However, Canadian star Catherine Pendrel put her foot down and tore the field apart.
Pendrel won gold in dominant fashion from fellow Canadian Elizabeth Batty and Australian Rebecca Henderson.
Mullens was seventh after the first of six laps before riding most of the race in 13th place.
She battled on gallantly and picked up a place in the final three kilometres to finish 12th, just less than 10 minutes behind Pendrel.
Bendigo mountain bike enthusiasts flocked to the One Tree Hotel in Spring Gully to watch Mullens’ race.
