Customers trying to log onto the website on Thursday morning were met with a message that said: ‘‘Australia’s biggest stocktake sale - coming soon.’’ They were urged to ‘‘check back later for incredible deals’’.
That is despite Myer advertising its online sale as starting at 9am on Christmas Day.
Frustrated customers turned to social media to complain that they could not log onto the website on Boxing Day, while some reported that they had also experienced problems on Christmas Day.
‘‘THE MYER WEBSITE ISN'T WORKING AND I NEED TO DO SOME SERIOUS SHOPPING,’’ tweeted @aliciajgray.
Another shopper, @thatvintage, tweeted: ‘‘Every man and his dog must be on the #Myer website doing post-Christmas shopping online. Website keeps crashing! My internet is fine!’’
Myer is billing its sale as ''Australia's biggest stocktake sale,'' worth $175 million.
The store was expected to have almost double the sale items on its website compared to last year.
Myer has been contacted for comment.
