The not-for-profit cooperative was formed to help keep Hepburn Shire district sustainable by encouraging the use of resources within the community and therefore strengthening the community.
Daylesford Community Op Shop committee member Carmel Thannhauser said the op shop was based on a Swedish model where it's purpose was to provide local community members with what they needed, including electrical items, without having to shop outside of town or buy an item new, and all profits were then put back into the community.
"This is sometimes done quietly, standing beside groups working within the community, individuals or families," Mrs Thannhauser said.
"At other times we work with groups, finding ways to address needs, assist with funding and link and connect local people. "It's not just another op shop. It's based on a whole community and the shop is set up like a village," she said.
"There's a community space where a mother can nurse her baby, a book nook, a seed bank, chai lounge and so much more."
She said the community op shop worked by putting all profits back into the local community.
"Based on the size of our town it will inject $100,000 a year back into the community," she said.
"Local organisations can apply for the profits for a month or so to help fund their service. They then become part of our core group of volunteers who keep the shop running."
The shop opens Tuesday to Saturday between 10am - 4pm daily.
