Barb Adam, Helen Jenkin, Laraine Toose and skip Helen Mizzeni won by one shot, while Sue Lafranchi, Elizabeth Cosgrave, Kevin Clohesy and skip Rhonda Armstrong won theirs by three shots. Peter Kersley, Beth Davidson, Judy Lafranchi and skip Jenny Toose. struggled all day to go down by seven shots.
In division two, Smeaton were too strong for Invermay by winning on all rinks. Winston Pickering, Marilyn Stephens, Robyn Bradshaw and skip Kerry Leishman won by two shots. Maxine Rousch, Colin Toose, Robyn Shaw and skip Keren May by 13 shots, while Bev Shaw, Joan Lafranchi, Miriam Haines and skip Graeme Perry won by one shot.
In division three, Smeaton defeated Learmonth by 13 shots. Frances Muller, Ian Ross, Sue Richards and skip Robert Seamons won by nine shots. Smeaton's second rink of Marg Saligari, Judy Slater, Robin Cawthan and skip Jenny Jolliffe went down by two shots, while Ted Rumler, Val Rumler, Shane Slater and skip Jenny Tranter also won by six shots.
Smeaton's mixed fours tournament was played on Thursday night. Paul Forest's team (Mt Xavier) won the event, while Colin Toose's team (Smeaton) were runners up.
In Saturday pennant, Smeaton suffered more heartache in the weekend pennant. In spite of a strong performance, division one was unable to hold up against a stronger East Ballarat side who took the game by eight shots. Jim Taylor's rink of Helen Jenkin, Joel McNaught and Alex McKee won by three shots. Russell Leishman, Geoff Toose, Craig McKee and skip Geoff Pickering who played great bowls from the beginning to the end of the match, before securing a 13 shot win. Even though Graeme Perry, Des Dwyer, John Gervasoni and skip Robert Mizzeni won by two shots after a close game.
Unfortunately, the division three team suffered a 35 shot loss to Bungaree, the only winning rink on the day for Smeaton was that of Judy Lafranchi, Miriam Haines, Laraine Toose and skip Rhonda Armstrong who won by five shots.
It was slightly better for the division five team who played East Ballarat and won by 16 shots. Gordon McKay, Barb Adam, Des Morrell and skip Bob Seamons won by seven shots, while Marg Saligari, Noel Bomphrey, Robyn Bradshaw and skip Russell Bradshaw won by three shots. Also enjoying a seven-shot win was the rink of Wayne Ford, Colin Toose, Jenny Tranter and skip Robin Cawthan.
In division eight, Smeaton won by a walkover against City Oval.
