Saturday Pearl - The Australian Janis Joplin Show and Shannon Bourne Plays Hendrix

Celebrate the the 50th Anniversary year of "Woodstock" with world-acclaimed Janis Joplin and Jimmi Hendix shows.

Pearl - The Janis Joplin Show is a jazz, blues, bohemian rock musical presentation, celebrating a woman who exploded onto the music scene and quickly became the queen of rock 'n' roll and mother of thrift shop vintage funk. Joplin had a series of unforgettable hits like Cry Baby and Me and Bobby McGee and Move Over.

Shannon Bourne presents Jimi Hendrix "Are You Experienced - 50th Anniversary". The first set will see the band perform the album in its entirety, with classic cuts such as Purple Haze, Hey Joe and FoxyLady. As a huge Hendrix fan, Bourne will then treat the crowd to a second set filled with Hendrix rarities and songs lesser performed. Shannon has been guitarist for Chris Wilson, Tex Perkins and Broderick Smith.

Sunday Jazz Deuce, featuring Norm Gray on flugelhorn and vocals and Simon Wigney on guitar, the duo plays the great American jazz standards of the '30s through to the '50s. Tunes made popular by Sinatra, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart and Jobim provide a background to wining, dining and relaxing.

Friday Neil Murray

Founding member of the pioneering Warumpi Band, Neil Murray will launch his ninth original solo album Blood and Longing on Friday. Neil is an influential and award winning songwriter who has made a substantial contribution to the nation's music heritage.

Blood and Longing offers 13 new tracks and was recorded and mixed by Roger Bergodaz, who is playing drums, along with Damien Neil (guitar) and Craig Kelly (bass) with Neil and Rachel Taylor is also guesting on backing vocals.

The cover art of Blood and Longing and title to one of two singles is Byjantic Man. The track was inspired by a sculpture of hand-forged iron bolts and wire by the artist Trevor Flinn, that stands in a paddock on Peter Redfearn's farm near Moulamein, NSW. The other single released is Cry My Darling about the plight of the Darling River.

Of relevance to people in the Castlemaine district is the track Dja Dja Wurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung which Neil originally wrote as part of Community Music Victoria's "Singing from Country" project in 2016.
