Saturday, Freya Josephine Hollick @ Palais Hepburn
Hollick recently returned from the US where she recorded with Lucinda Williams' band.
She's also fresh from performances at National Folk Festival, Bendigo Autumn Music Festival and a national tour with CW Stoneking, as well as supporting Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats.
Hollick is a Ballarat born country gal, receiving strong interest in alt.country and Americana circles, as well playing an enormous amount of prominent gigs far and wide.
Recent inclusion on a couple of Rhythms samplers has her in esteemed company indeed.
The old-timey country songbird brings blues and honky tonk goodness that transports you back to early Appalachia, through war-time romance, the golden era of country music, giving them her own twist with a unique and affecting singing voice. Her voice has been compared to Maybelle Carter, Dolly Parton and Skip James.
Hollick has toured with the likes of Justin Townes Earle, Willie Watson, Joshua Hedley and Joe Pug and more, plus an array of festival appearances.
In 2018, she released her highly praised album Feral Fusion with performances at Festival of Voices and the Melbourne Recital Centre, followed by a coveted spot in a tribute to The Byrds' classic album Sweethearts Of The Rodeo at Out On The Weekend.
Friday, Little Wigtown Duo @ Blue Bean Cafe
Saturday, The Cartwheels @ Blue Bean Cafe
Still mostly acoustic, intimate and unpredictable The Cartwheels family band - with singer-guitarist Wendy Phypers, bassist Dave Patterson and drummer Charley - play country, rockabilly and rock 'n' roll.
Sunday, Andy Lacy @ Blue Bean Cafe
Saturday, Shaun Kirk @ The Bridge Hotel Castlemaine
Kirk had a huge 2018, which included the release of two new singles and some 20 sold-out headline shows across Australia and New Zealand.
This is an opportunity to catch Kirk's live show in the flesh and will come off the back of numerous Bluesfest sideshows.
A chance for those to catch Kirk, especially for those who miss his big event shows at the Old Hepburn.
