The shiny new tanker has already been on the roads and attended the recent fires in Mt Clear.

Brigade Captain Rob Hands said the tanker was a useful addition to the shire as it was able to access remote areas and challenging landscapes that would be difficult or impossible for the bigger truck to gain access to.

The idea to fundraise for a light tanker sparked in 2012 when brigade members were facing difficulties gaining access to fires locally.

With a cost of $135,000, the brigade began the process of applying for grants through the government and spending weekends selling raffle tickets to come up with a sum of over $21,000 themselves.

Daylesford District Community Bank helped the brigade get over the line by providing $10,000 towards the ultralight tanker.

Mr Hands said the tanker was good because CFA members did not need a truck license to drive it, unlike the fire truck, so it was ideal for patrols.

The tanker has the same capacity as the bigger truck and will be easier to drive around to fires around the state.

It has a water carrying capacity of 550 litres and is fitted with a chainsaw and phone.

The Porcupine Ridge brigade has approximately 35 members, with 20 operational firefighters.

Community Bank chair Mark Rak said volunteer firefighters played a vital role in the community and the bank was pleased to support them.

"This new vehicle will enhance the capacity of Porcupine Ridge CFA to respond to emergencies," Mr Rak said.

"CFA groups are called out to a range of events such as bush fires, home fires, road accidents and more. The volunteers work hard to look after the community and we are happy to relieve some of the fundraising stresses they face."

Mr Rak said the bank had provided over $20,000 to CFA units in the area during the past five years and first began its association with the CFA in 2011 when it established its 2009 bush fire grant to donate an ultralight tanker to Daylesford CFA at the cost of around $80,000.
