Friday, Four Lions @ Palais Hepburn

Actually, there's five of them these days. From Bendigo, they ply their trade in Americana-influenced roots, rock and alt-country.

Think Wilco, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The band was formed in late 2014 by singer/guitarist/chief songwriter Shann Lions, completed by Keith MacQueen (lead guitar/vocals), Stephen Briggs (keyboards, Hammond), Gavan Moncrieff (drums), and newbie Bradley Bradford (bass).

Saturday, Sol Nation-World Music @ Palais Hepburn

Seven-piece Sol Nation is a must-see musical experience. They guarantee a performance to remember via their own unique fusion of reggae, samba, funk, salsa, East Timorese folksong and African dance music.

Impassioned musicians who draw upon their wealth of years of experience performing in other bands.

Most notably, at band's heart, lies the reggae experience of Paulo Almeida (The Dili Allstars), Colin Badger (Painters & Dockers) and songstress Deline Briscoe (The Black Arm Band).

Each musician in the group lends their musical prowess, and the end result is a tight, well honed live show, which proves impossible to not dance along with.

East Timorese vocalist Almeida is the voice of Sol Nation, soaring and weaving through the music in a mixture of English, Portuguese and Tetum, a product of his life experience living in several different countries during his homeland's occupation by Indonesia.

Friday, Josh Dance @ Blue Bean Cafe

From down the road a bit at Geelong, Dance plays electric guitar with a drummer, Black Keys style, serving up mostly originals with some covers thrown in.

Dance has recorded a couple of CDs of blues rock and roll.

Saturday, Buck Edwards @ Blue Bean Cafe

Sunday, Ellerby @ Blue Bean Cafe

Saturday, Sun Kil Moon @ Theatre Royal Castlemaine

San Francisco-based singer-songwriter Sun Kil Moon (Mark Kozelek) performs in Castlemaine as part of a second Australian tour.

Sun Kil Moon is unique among the folk and rock genres.

This music is described as "sweeping, intimate and poetic, pulsing and luminous" and as "acoustic balladry that transcends narrative, deftly conjuring vivid and dynamic imagery".

Please note, there's no support for this tour. Sun Kil Moon will be playing a 2.5-hour set.
