The Burras have come out guns blazing to start the season with three wins from their three games, currently sitting ahead of reigning premiers Learmonth on top of the ladder.
Coach Gary Cooke said getting out to a hot start to the year was very important for the Burras.
"We really talked about that at the start of the year and all throughout pre-season," he said.
2018 was full of ups-and-downs for Hepburn as they struggled to find consistency in a new, young lineup. They found their form at the end of the season, pushing then undefeated Learmonth in the final game of the regular season to a 42-42 draw.
After spending over a year together, there's been no feeling out period in 2019.
"It was really important to us to get off to a good start and get our connections right because what we didn't want to do was like last year was spend half of the season trying to get our connections and line-ups working properly and try and get it going at the end of the year," Cooke told The Courier.
Hepburn's three wins this season have been by an average margin of 50 goals, which has been great for the confidence of their young side says Cooke.
"With such young players, they need that confidence these big wins provide," he said.
"When they've been under pressure they've thrived on it. They're just so full of energy and are so coachable because they want to do their best for each other."
Cooke believes his team is ready to challenge some of the best sides in the competition with games against always strong Bungaree and undefeated Springbank fast approaching in rounds five and six.
"We want these challenges," he said.
"We want tough games, we want to be put under pressure because it's a good test for us. We want the experience of playing games fatigued and under the pump because we know if we can still make good decisions in those conditions we're going to have a really strong season."
16-year-old wing defense Brydi Hutchinson has played a big role for the Burras so far, with Cooke calling her a future star, while Madeline Carter in the mid-court and goalkeeper and captain Tara Ford have stood out in the first three weeks.
Cooke knows the rest of the season will be a challenge and is ready for whatever is thrown Hepburn's way.
"We know there's a big job ahead of us and some big teams there to challenge us so we're going to take it one week at a time."
