The 10-year strategy, drawn up with Sport and Recreational Victoria, is specific to the community and aims to address the inequality experienced so more females can feel the health benefits of moving their bodies more often.
The shire's women are significantly less active than men, with only 32.3 per cent meeting the physical activity guidelines as opposed to 50.7 per cent of males.
By encouraging more females to be active, providing more activities and gender inclusive community sport and recreation infrastructure, appointing more women to senior positions on boards and coaching positions and ensuring gender balance in sporting club memberships, the initiative aims to contribute to a cultural change.
Birch Ward councillor Fiona Robson said the strategy encouraged people of all ages, from all abilities and disabilities to be active, healthy and well.
