Daylesford’s 11-year-old Ava Richardson and Lyonville’s 15-year-old Jonas Paar have had a busy six weeks swimming competitively at Victorian state and country championship levels.
Ava won the bronze medal at the Victorian Spring Championships in Melbourne with her personal best time of 30.77 in the 50-metre freestyle.
She followed this with a silver and two bronze medals in the 11/under girls 50-metre freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly at the Victorian Country Championships at Warragul during the long weekend.
Meanwhile, Jonas won bronze at the Victorian State Age Championships in Melbourne in December for his 200-metre breaststroke with the speedy recorded time of 2.36.21.
He followed this achievement with a gold medal in the 100-metre breaststroke for the 15/ under boys.
Jonas also won a silver medal in the 200 Men’s Open Breastroke and a bronze in the 200 boys 15/under Individual Medley at the Victorian Country Championships.
Jonas has been training bright and early for two hours each morning, six days a week.
His determination and hard work have paid off. He has placed in his first Australian National Championships, where he will compete in a number of events in South Australia in April.
Both of the young swimmers train with the Ballarat Swimming Club, where they will continue to train during the next couple of months of summer competitions.
