The trail run involved more than 700 runners compete in either the 6 kilometre, 13 kilometre or 24 kilometre trails before running into the gates at Sailors Falls Estate.
Tullie Rowe and David Glen were the clear winners in the 6 kilometre races, while in the 13 kilometre, Karla Treweek and Jack Davies got over the line first. In the 24 kilometre, Nic Van Raaphorst and Rebecca Beagley made it across the line first by mere seconds.
Winery owner Robert McDonald said the event was a wonderful new concept for outdoor tourism in the shire.
“Over 2000 spectators and others came to our winery. This has grown from 300 competitors and about 1000 others in 2016,” he said. “All athletes commented on the beauty of Wombat Forest and the wonderful finishing destination at Sailors Falls Estate.”
This year, the estate hosted live music, food stalls and wine tasting at the cellar door for competitors to enjoy once they had completed the race.
