The performance, titled Culture Flip, centres on the story of trailblazing circus performer May Wirth, from her beginnings until the present.
Sprung Circus coach Mara Macs said the show celebrated the vitality and skill of the “gutsy young women of Sprung Circus, to show off their acrobatic skill, strength and their smarts,” she said.
“Nothing and no one is going to cramp their style as they set their own course.”
Macs said Culture Flip was “the culmination of a huge year of development and training for the Senior Sprung Kids of Sprung Circus with both in-house and guest trainers”.
Earlier in the year, the performers attended the Australian Acrobatics Convention, followed by training sessions with specialist coaches including Circus Oz and Cirque de Soleil’s Caesar, Sharon Guernet and Ruby Rowat.
In addition, the performers played an integral part in the Mavericks and Misfits production before a two week intensive training course with Flying Fruit Fly.
But it has not come without sacrifice. Performers have forfeited school camps and the state volleyball championships to participate. The half hour performance will open the World Circus and Cabaret Festival in the May Wirth Circus Tent from 4pm on Friday, November 16.
The group will also perform the show on November 17 and 18.
