In the A1 grade, both Dean and Kingston Gold went into their second round match with hopes to hold on to their winning streak and send the other team home with a loss.
All three men’s sets were extremely close games but the Kingston Gold trio of Mykel Smith, Ken Smith and Brayden Joyce managed to win all three, 6-8, 7-8 and 5-8.
Despite not winning a set, the Dean trio of Adam Tippett, Jack Loader and Andrew MacLeod made the Kingston Gold men fight hard for every single point.
Meanwhile, the women’s sets started off with a tiebreaker that again played well for Kingston Gold, who pushed the advantage and took the second women’s set 3-8. But Dean wasn’t done, and broke through for their first set of the day with Samara Shearer and Lauren Kinnersley winning 8-4.
Despite having only won the one set, Dean only found themselves down eight games heading into the final three mixed sets. This quickly turned into a deficit of 10 games for Dean as Kingston Gold took the first mixed 6-8. Dean fought incredibly hard and managed to win the last two mixed sets 8-7 and 8-6.
Ultimately though, despite winning these last two sets, Dean couldn’t make up enough ground and found themselves down overall by seven games at the end of the day.
Dean (Adam Tippet, Jack Loader, Andrew MacLeod, Daina MacLeod, Samara Shearer, Lauren Kinnersley) 3/58 defeated by Kingston Gold (Mykel Smith, Ken Smith, Brayden Joyce, Lauren Parker, Debbie Bowe-Smith, Anne McCrum) 6/65.
