In the midweek pennant, Smeaton travelled to City Oval but suffered a 38 shot loss. It did, however, win one rink.
Elizabeth Cosgrave, Sue Lafranchi, Maureen Goldsmith and skip Jenny Toose had a three shot win while Helen Mizzeni’s rink went down by 12 and Rhonda Armstrong’s rink lost by 29 shots.
In division three, Smeaton had a seven shot win over Ballarat.
Although Graeme Perry, Robyn Bradshaw, Laraine Toose and skip Carol McKay lost narrowly by 2 shots and Winston Pickering, Barb Adam, Kerry Leishman and skip Marilyn Stephens lost by three, Bev Shaw’s rink of Peter Kersley, Robin Cawthan and Maxine Rousch won by 12 shots.
In the weekend pennant, Smeaton’s division one team lost to Ballarat Memorial Sports by 27 points, despite winning three out of four rinks.
Geoff Pickering’s rink of Peter Kersley, Craig McKee and Geoff Toose won by two shots while Alex McKee, Joel McNaught, Dean Taylor and skip Jim Taylor led their rink all day before taking home a 10 shot win.
Kevin Clohesy, Peter Sewell,Greg May and skip David Toose also had a win by three shots but John Gervasoni, Jenny Toose, Robert Mizzeni and skip Robert Briggs were outplayed by a more skilled team and were defeated by 42 shots.
Over in division four, Smeaton defeated Linton and District by six points in a close game. The team won two out of four rinks.
Garry Fitzsimons, Ross Dimond, Helen Mizzeni and skip Robert McCrum cruised to 14 shot win to start the day off nicely, before David Pedretti, Miriam Haines, Graeme Perry and skip Ron Leishman won their rink by four shots.
In division six, Smeaton lost to Waubra by 30 points.
Helen Jenkin, Sue Lafranchi, Elizabeth Cosgrave and skip Rhonda Armstrong had a close game but missed out on a win two shots. Skip Robert Seamons’ rink struggled all day, losing by 28 points. But skip Russell Bradshaw’s rink were able to get over the line with a five shot win, while Des Morell’s rink kept the game close before going down by five.
Away at Mt Xavier, Smeaton lost by 18 points but there was a major highlight with a 21 shot win by Wayne Ford, David McKay, Mervyn McKay and skip Carol McKay.
