Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas and Hepburn Shire Council’s Chief Executive Officer Evan King announced the $383,000 project on Tuesday morning.
The state government will invest $240,000 through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, while council will contribute $143,000 towards the project.
The skate park will see upgrades to the equipment and ramps as well as the creation of a half basketball court.
Paul Lemphers from Friends of Daylesford Community Park said the news meant so much to the young people who had been advocating for the upgrades.
“The lack of public transport options here makes it really hard for young people to experience what kids in bigger towns have. So having a central space where people of all ages can come and roller blade, skate or ride gets more kids outside and being active.
“It promotes more social interaction and friendships. So it will be a wonderful asset to this community.”
Ms Thomas said skating was an incredibly popular sport.
“There is nothing like physical activity to help to alleviate feelings like stress and anxiety that young people might be feeling. This would not have happened without passionate community members who decided they had a plan and a vision that they wouldn’t give up on.”
Birch ward councillor Kate Redwood said the project had been campaigned for by the community for many years and had involved the dedication of young people who had fundraised towards the project.
Works are anticipated to begin in September 2019.
