Six years ago, Wilson asked Dan if he would sit for a portrait but he was insistent that if he agreed, she would paint his brother as well due to their being a team.
Wilson completed a solo portrait of Dan before she painted the two brothers with John in the foreground.
However, this portrait was forgotten after a house fire and it was not until renowned portrait artist Daniel Butterworth saw the portrait and told her it needed to be finished that Wilson picked it up again.
Wilson did not entertain the idea she would be chosen as one of 30 finalists but said it captured the eye of the judges for its uniqueness and ability to tell a story.
Throughout her career as an artist, which began 25 years ago, Wilson’s work has been chosen as a finalist eight times in Australia’s major portrait prizes.
