In the midweek pennant, Smeaton’s division one side lost to Avenue by 19 shots, although Elizabeth Cosgrave, Sue Lafranchi, Maureen Goldsmith, and skip Jenny Toose had a draw with 24 shots.
But both the division three and division four sides achieved strong wins.
The division three team beat Daylesford by a thrilling 34 shots, with Peter Kersley, Robin Cawthan, Maxine Rousch and skip Bev Shaw’s rink winning by 21 shots.
The division four team also celebrated a win, beating Daylesford on its home green with a nine shot win.
The Saturday pennant also saw a number of impressive victories for Smeaton.
After suffering a 23 shot loss in the first round to Creswick, Smeaton went home with a 24 shot win in the second round after it beat Ballarat East 106-82.
Alex McKee, Joel McNaught, Dean Taylor and skip Jim Taylor recorded an 11 shot win, while Kevin Clohesy, Peter Sewell, Greg May and skip David Toose won by six. Meanwhile, Geoff Pickering’s rink of Peter Kersley, Craig McKee and Geoff Toose won by nine.
Unfortunately, the division four team suffered a 48 point loss to Sebastopol, but it was better news for the division six team.
With a great start, Smeaton’s Wayne Ford, V Rumler, Sue Lafranchi and skip Maureen Goldsmith just managed to get over the line to win by five shots, while Russell Leishman, Barb Adam, Robin Cawthan and skip Russell Bradshaw cruised to a 16 shot win.
But it was Smeaton’s division nine team who rose to a truly spectacular victory.
Playing on home turf, Smeaton took on Learmonth and cruised to a monumental 60 shot win.
Marg Saligari, David McKay, Mervyn McKay and skip Carol McKay won their rink by 31 shots, while Amy Slater, Daryl Slater, Judy Slater and skip Shane Slater lost 4 shots.
Kevin Lafranchi, Jason Parr, Ian Pickering and skip Marilyn Stephens won their rink by 33 shots.
