In association with MND Victoria and Daylesford Football Netball Club, the family is hosting a day of events to fundraise for the organisation.
Motor neurone disease is a debilitating disease which affects the nerve cells which control the muscles which allow a person to move, speak, breathe and swallow.
The disease causes these muscles to weaken and waste as neurones degenerate and die.
MND Victoria provides vital care and support for individuals and their families who are living with motor neurone disease.
It also funds research into science and clinical trials in an effort to find a cure for the devastating condition in the future.
Sebastian Walsh said his family was putting on the event because it wanted to raise more awareness of the cause on a local level.
“We thought holding the event with the footy club would be a great way to get a wide variety of people involved. Plus a few people in Hepburn Shire have been affected by the disease.”
The day will include a number of activities including the 3km family friendly Walshy’s Walk/ Waddle around Victoria Park, an auction of AFL merchandise and hampers, barbecue, food and drink, finska cup challenge, a jumping castle for the kids and live music played into the evening.
The major event will be the dunking tank, where personalities, including members of Hepburn Health, local paramedics, Daylesford Football Netball Club, Daylesford and Hepburn United Soccer Club, Hepburn Springs Golf Club, Daylesford Bowling Club, ChillOut Festival and members of the Walsh family, will take the plunge for the cause.
Julie Walsh said the family was trying to reach out to all different sectors of the community
Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for people under the age of 16. This price includes registration and a t-shirt.
The fundraiser, including Walshy’s Walk/ Waddle and the Daylesford Dunking Derby will take place on October 6 from 2pm onwards at Victoria Park.
