From classic Scottish folk songs to contemporary hits, the program promises a wonderful day out for all the family.
Hundreds of brass and pipe musicians from seven bands, including Creswick Brass Band, Daylesford and District Pipes and Drums, Daylesford Community Brass Band, Eaglehawke Citizens Brass Band, Maryborough and District Highland Pipe Band, junior and senior members of the Ballarat Highland Dancers, members of the City of Greater Bendigo Brass Band and Eaglehawk Brass Band will perform across the afternoon, before a spectacular finale which will see all the bands play the world premiere of Louisa Trewartha’s commissioned composition of The Nature of Sound.
Trewartha, a musician, composer and conductor was commissioned by the producers of The Regional Centre for Culture to compose a new work for brass and pipe musicians to perform on the day.
“Highlighting through simple melody the best of bagpipes, percussion and brass, The Nature of Sound, will be a surround-sound experience, making the most of the outdoor setting at Lake Jubilee, Daylesford.
“Beginning with a lone piper, then ebbing and flowing towards an epic full-company finale, the premiere of this work promises to be a reflective and engaging experience for both audience and musicians alike,” Trewartha said.
Award-winning opera singer, actor and songwriter Jessica Hitchcock will also perform.
Regional Centre for Culture co-producers Jo Porter and Elizabeth Walsh said many of the bands had been making music in their communities for over 100 years.
“They provide the sound track to civic occasions and wide access to instrument and tuition for generations of community musicians. This event is a celebration of music and the people who make music across the region your all invited to come along and enjoy the afternoon.”
The event will kick off at 2pm and conclude at 4.30pm.
