Trentham Saints’ reserves will play their first grand final since 2011 after a hard-fought victory over Avoca.
The Saints started the first quarter well with veteran Ali Thomson kicking the first two goals before Avoca stemmed the flow and booted three goals to take a seven point lead going into the first change. The second quarter saw a true finals battle with pressure mounting from both sides. By three quarter time, the Saints had dominated the inside 50s but were struggling to convert, hanging on to the lead by a point.
With a grand final on the line, the team finally gelled and rose to the challenge. Josh Murphy kicked two and had a hand in two others, helping Trentham storm home to win with four goals.
The Saints face a powerhouse Carisbrook in the grand final.
Meanwhile, the 17/under took on Newstead and came from behind, winning a tough contest by 10 points. Best on ground were Eli Kinnell, Ben Cass and Zach Kupsch.
The A-grade netballers followed through on their undefeated season with a hard-earned victory over Harcourt.
The players started strong, jumping to an early lead and holding a six-goal break at quarter time. Harcourt lifted in the second quarter but the Saints remained calm and kept the six-goal margin at half time.
The Saints were too strong for Harcourt, despite their efforts, beating the latter 54-41.
The B-graders also took on Harcourt, hanging on all game to win a real nail biter, eventually going home with victory by one goal.
The B-graders have made it into the grand final from fourth position on the ladder.
After leading comfortably early in the game, the Saints whittled away a determined Lions outfit, with scores level at three-quarter time.
In a thrilling last term that went goal for goal with even scores.
Saints shooter Elly Rose was awarded a penalty shot as the siren sounded.
Rose calmly slotted the ball in the ring, sending Saints fans wild and booking her side a shot at ultimate glory next week.
