With fine weather predicted, more than 10,000 football and soccer fans are expected to make their way to venues across the city on the day.
Ballarat Inspector Trevor Cornwill said the police have rostered on extra staff throughout the weekend and will be running a booze and drug bus which will be set up post game.
He said, extra police would also be rostered on in Beaufort and Buninyong to police celebrations after the grand final.
“There will be an increased pressence across the region on Saturday,” Inspector Cornwill said.
“The booze and drug bus will be in operation and we will be targeting impaired drivers. Our Highway Patrol will also be making sure people are able to exit the venues in a safe and secure manner.
“It’s important to remember that anyone who may have taken illicit substances in the two days before, it will still be in your system.
“We will also have additional police throughout the city as we anticipate a number of venues to be full on the night.
