White Balloon Day, now in its 22nd year, is an annual event which aims to break the silence around the issue, through raising awareness and funds for the prevention of child sexual assault.
The event is held to educate communities around how to prevent child sexual assault while helping to raise funds for Bravehearts’ counselling and education programs, which address the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
According to Bravehearts, a child is sexually assaulted every 90 minutes in Australia. That means one in every five children are sexually harmed in some way before their 18th birthdays, accounting for 58,000 children in all corners of Australia each year.
The library will hold an afternoon tea at 3.30pm, while the musical due Sugar n’ Spice, headed by Vanessa Craven and accompanied by Zdena Schwendmeier, will lend their support in providing ambiance.
