The festival, which has been running for five years, will be a fun day out for younger families and older kids.
On the day, a fundraiser will be held for the Ballarat Soup Bus, while additional funds raised will be filtered back into managing the Dean Recreation Reserve.
Secretary of the Dean Recreation Reserve Committee, Jon Rofe, said the day was a great opportunity for families to get outdoors together.
“The festival started because we (the community) were looking for ideas at events to hold at the Recreation Reserve,” he said. “And a community member came up with the idea of a kite festival… we have been organising it ever since.”
The committee now runs a number of community events each year, including the popular Sheepdog Trials in November.
The Dean Kite Festival was created as a way to bring more people to the small town, whose reserve is its main attraction.
Entry to the festival is free.
Children will be entertained with kite making workshops for a price of $10, held by Jo Baker, from Kites 4 Kids. Baker is a kite educator, kite flier, kite builder and 2005 world champion who has held kit making workshops at schools and community events across the globe since 1995.
Kite demonstrations, extreme kite buggying demonstrations and a sausage sizzle and afternoon tea will also be on the cards.
The festival will be held from 12pm to 4pm at 1370 Daylesford-Ballarat Road, Dean.
