The school launched into Book Week celebrations with a day of activities including a parade and treasure hunt.
Each student dressed as their favourite book character before parading their costumes through the school grounds.
The students then split into four family groups for activities, including a whole school treasure hunt.
This year’s book week theme is Find Your Treasure so each student searched the school’s grounds for one of 72 keys, one per student, in a bid to unlock a treasure chest filled to the brim with a stash of goodies.
Grade four student Chloe was the lucky student to find the key which unlocked the box of treasures.
At the end of the day, prizes for best dressed were awarded to a girl and boy at each year level.
In grade prep and one, Xavier and Kiah won the prize.
In grades two and three, Lilly and Nate were awarded best dressed while Eve and Jordy took the award for grades three and four and Brendan and Maddi were awarded for grades five and six.
Principal Ethan Corfee said Book Week celebrated that reading was an important skill that could bring great enjoyment.
“We want to celebrate that reading is a fundamental skill,” he said.
“And (Book Week) raises the profile of reading which is very important.”
The students engaged in three activity rotations with different teachers the following week on the subject of the shortlisted picture story books, including Florette by Anna Walker, A Walk In The Bush by Gwyn Perkins and The Great Rabbit Chase by Freya Blackwood.
Book Week, endorsed by the Children’s Book Council of Australia, has been running since 1945.
Each year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia brings school children and books together by celebrating children’s literature through Book Week, with the assistance of schools, libraries and booksellers.
